Against the Storm makes beginning another settlement part of the attraction. Rather than spending the whole game extending one town, you lead fantasy villagers into the wilderness, adapt to the conditions of each expedition and bring lasting progress back to the Smoldering City. It is a city builder for players interested in changing economic problems, not just a place to perfect a permanent layout.
Each settlement contributes to a longer journey
The U.S. English Steam listing describes a dark fantasy survival city builder set amid apocalyptic rains. As the Scorched Queen’s Viceroy, you reclaim the wilderness with villagers whose needs and specializations differ. Humans, beavers, lizards, foxes and harpies bring considerations about housing, food, luxuries and recreation into the work of running the settlement.
Failure can end an expedition without ending the larger game. Resources, upgrades and experience from earlier journeys carry forward into subsequent attempts. Settlements spread across a world map, while the Smoldering City provides the lasting refuge through recurring Blightstorms. The result is a structure built around repeated beginnings and persistent progress rather than the indefinite survival of one town.
Make a production plan that can change
Blueprint and perk choices, varying biomes and changing weather influence what you can do within a run. Exploring glades can reveal resources and opportunities, but also dangers. You cannot assume that every building you would like is available, so the economy must work with the production capabilities and ingredients at hand.
That puts adaptation alongside construction. Meeting villagers’ needs, keeping production useful and deciding how far to explore take place under pressure from the forest and the Queen’s demands. A familiar layout is not the whole answer when the available options change. The reasons to consider this game are those decisions and their connection to lasting city upgrades, rather than decoration alone.

A released PC game with continuing updates
This is an established game, not a new October launch. Steam lists December 8, 2023 as the release date, with November 1, 2022 separately identified as its Steam Early Access release. The official Eremite Games site continues to feature Against the Storm as the developer’s roguelite city builder.
The developer’s September 24, 2026 Update 1.11 announcement describes a more recent addition: the Rebel Hideout World Map modifier limits the affected settlement to two species. Completing its associated Deed unlocks a Board Game Piece decoration for the home in the Smoldering City. The update also includes interface and tutorial improvements, such as clearer guidance about moving camps and a season-lock tooltip.
The patch version named in that announcement is historical information, not confirmation of the latest patch today. For a separate indication of current activity, the Steam page showed 241 reviews from the preceding 30 days on October 19, 2026, with 91% positive. Those reviews and the recent update show continuing interest, but they are not a sales total, concurrent-player count or a guarantee that the loop will suit you.

Separate the base-game offer from optional extras
On October 19, the U.S. Steam page listed the base game at US$8.99, a 70% discount from its normal US$29.99 price. The displayed promotion says it ends October 22. An exact ending time or timezone is not established here, and the offer should not be mistaken for a permanent entry price.
Optional content was priced separately. Nightwatchers was US$11.99, normally US$14.99; Keepers of the Stone was US$9.74, normally US$14.99; and the Supporter Pack was US$7.99, normally US$9.99. These separate listings do not establish that the extras are included in the base purchase. A demo was offered, and the checked page displayed no recurring subscription charge.
All of those figures are dated U.S. storefront quotes. They are not Korean or worldwide prices, a guaranteed tax-inclusive checkout total, or a promise about future discounts. They also do not establish cross-buy rights or inclusion of all future content. Decide whether the base game’s cycle appeals to you before treating a larger collection of optional purchases as necessary.
Check the Windows requirements without reading them as benchmarks
The Steam requirements list Windows 10 64-bit. The minimum configuration calls for an Intel Core i3-530 or AMD Phenom II X4 965, 4 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 with 1 GB or AMD Radeon HD 7750 with 1 GB. DirectX 10 and 5 GB of available storage are specified.
The recommended tier lists an Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-Series FX-8320, 8 GB RAM, and a GeForce GTX 970 with 4 GB or Radeon R9 290X with 4 GB. DirectX 12 is listed, with the same operating system and available-storage requirement. These are store-supplied specifications, not measured frame rates or proof that a particular settlement will run smoothly. Available storage is not a guaranteed download size.
The PC listing identifies single-player. A separately announced cooperative board game should not be confused with cooperative play in this PC release. Native Mac or Linux support, Steam Deck certification, controller-only suitability, console feature parity and handheld battery life are not established here.
Who should consider Against the Storm?
Consider it if the idea of rebuilding with different options interests you more than extending a single town forever. Species needs, production choices and exploration give each settlement decisions to make, while lasting upgrades keep the broader journey connected. That combination is the relevant buying question, rather than the city-builder label by itself.
Players seeking only freeform decoration or specifically wanting a cooperative PC city builder should not assume this is the same proposition. Compare your Windows hardware with the listed tiers and consider the demo to help assess the loop. This is a source-based introduction, not a scored review, firsthand play report or hardware benchmark.
