I never really considered myself a gamer. I was just a regular computer user who liked keeping up with new tech trends. But lately, my social media feed has been flooded with VR/AR content, and I had a realization—if I didn’t start now, I might end up like those parents struggling with smartphones! 😅 So, I decided to take the plunge into VR.

At the time, MetaQuest3s had just been released. After some research and a bit of hesitation, I decided to go for the high-end model(MetaQuest3). Looking back, I have zero regrets. It’s been only three months, but VR has completely changed how I see the world. If you’re still debating whether to buy a VR headset, let me save you some time: JUST GET IT! It’s absolutely worth it. My VR Experience: Gaming & Entertainment 🎮📺

Over the past three months, I’ve primarily used my Quest for two things: gaming and entertainment (Netflix, YouTube, etc.). To be honest, gaming takes up about 90% of my VR time, and I’m loving every second of it! 😆

If you’re new to VR, you might be wondering where to start. Let me share some of my favorite games and categorize them based on VR experience level (not difficulty). Also, if you want to try multiple games without breaking the bank, consider Meta Quest+. It’s a subscription service that lets you access various popular games for around $30 a month. New games are added every month, making it a fantastic way to start exploring VR. 🚀

Beginner-Friendly VR Games (EASY) 🏆

If you’re just getting started, these games will help you ease into the VR world:

  • (Relaxing) First Encounters
  • (Relaxing) Cubism
  • (Relaxing) Meta Horizon Worlds
  • (Relaxing) LEGO Bricktables
  • (Relaxing) Walkabout Mini Golf ⛳
  • (Relaxing) Spacefolk City
  • DEMEO: Dungeon Crawler 🎲 (If you love RPG board games, this is a must-play.)
  • Synth Riders 🎵 (A fantastic rhythm game.)
  • Until You Fall ⚔️ (Great for building VR combat skills.)
  • In Death: Unchained 🏹 (Another excellent combat game.)
  • Bateman: Arkham Shadow 🦇 (Not the easiest game, but since it’s free with Meta Quest 3, I highly recommend it for beginners.)

Moving to the Next Level: More Intense Games (HARD) 💪🔥

After about a month of playing, I started craving something more challenging. That’s when I moved on to harder games. At this point, you might need to invest more money in games, but trust me, it’s worth it!

For me, games that require a lot of movement and action are the most fun. I realized that just sitting and playing isn’t my style. That’s why I got completely hooked on The Thrill of the Fight 2 and UNDERDOGS. Every time I play, I end up drenched in sweat, so I now play in just my underwear (TMI, I know 😆). If you love fighting games, these two are must-haves! 🥊

I’m also slowly working through Asgard’s Wrath 2. The world is massive, and exploring different locations is incredible. But my current obsession? Arizona Sunshine 2. It’s a zombie survival game, and the realism was so intense that I nearly had a heart attack the first time I played. 😱 Now, I’m completely addicted to the thrill of it!

Here are my top recommendations for more advanced VR players:

More Advanced VR Games (HARD) 🔥🎮

  • UNDERDOGS 🤖 (One of the best robot combat games!)
  • The Thrill of the Fight 2 🥊 (If you love boxing, this is the best workout.)
  • Asgard’s Wrath 2 ⚔️ (Huge open-world RPG.)
  • Arizona Sunshine 2 🧟 (One of the best zombie survival games.)

VR for Entertainment: Is It Worth It? 🤔🎬

While I mainly use my headset for gaming, I did explore some entertainment features too.

Internet Browsing in VR 🌍

Honestly? Not great. The screen size is fantastic, but typing is super inconvenient. Clicking each letter with a pointer is painfully slow. 😵‍💫

Netflix & YouTube in VR 🍿

This is where VR shines. Watching Netflix and YouTube in VR feels like having a personal home theater. If wearing a headset for long periods wasn’t slightly uncomfortable, I might never need a TV again. However, I noticed I don’t use it as much as I expected. Why?

  1. I can’t see my hands. I love snacking while watching, but in VR, my hands disappear. In XR mode, the headset tracks my hands as controllers, which means whenever I reach for food, a floating pointer pops up on the screen. Super annoying. 🙄
  2. You need to sit still. Wearing a headset while relaxing is fine, but it’s not as effortless as just picking up your phone.

VR Concerts: VENTAX 🎤

VENTAX lets you experience concerts up close, but it wasn’t my thing. The avatars all looked oddly short, and even people taller than me appeared at my seated eye level. It felt a bit off. But if you want a front-row seat at a virtual concert, it’s worth checking out. 🎶

Entertainment Apps

  • Internet Browsing 🌐 (Meh.)
  • Netflix 🎥 (Awesome, but slightly inconvenient.)
  • YouTube 📺 (Perfect for watching VR content.)
  • VENTAX 🎤 (If you love concerts, give it a shot.)

Final Thoughts & Must-Have Accessories 🎯🔧

That sums up my three-month VR journey! If I get the time, I’ll introduce more apps in detail later. Oh, and motion sickness? It’s real. I used to feel nauseous after 30 minutes, but now I can play for 2 hours straight without issues. If you get dizzy, take a break and lie down—it really helps! 😌

Must-Have Accessories 👓🔋

Wondering which accessories are worth buying? I only bought two, and they were game-changers:

  1. Zenni Prescription Lenses (with anti-fog) 👓
    • Essential if you wear glasses. Trying to fit glasses under a headset is uncomfortable and can scratch the lenses.
  2. Meta Quest Elite Strap (with Battery) 🔋
    • The built-in battery only lasts about an hour, so this is a must-have. Otherwise, you’ll constantly be searching for a charger mid-game.
